During the Antarctic Summer, Becci and her husband
Mark ventured south for a ten day
expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula. They encountered rolling
seas and gale force winds; blue skies
with snow capped mountain peaks mirrored in the waters they towered over; more penguins than you can count, and
the experience of a lifetime.. .

Birds Eye View
It took two days cruising from the tip of South America through the rolling
seas of Drake's Passage to reach the Antarctic Peninsula. Dramamine was our
only friend.
Crossing the Drake
Passage Sometimes it was impossible to walk and many kept to
their beds.
Lifeboat drill
Life Suit Life
jackets alone are not enough in these freezing waters.
Iceberg Sighting
Everyone was on the look out for our first iceberg. And penguins!
Ice Sculptures
Table Glaciers
These huge tables of floating ice could be miles long.
Unloading Zodiacs
We cruised the waters and made landings on the
Antarctic continent in small inflatable zodiacs.
Zodiac Cruises
There is nothing more stunning...
except for the landings and the penguins!
Quick Sketches
An afternoon of joining the penguins in the sun to sketch and take notes
was great fun. They're very entertaining.
And they're
everywhere!

Climbing A great
way to stretch our legs and find another panoramic view, but coming down is
the real reason to go up...just sit and slide!

Homeward Bound As
we headed back across Drake's Passage and home, we were greeted by several
humpback whales.
